In the Spring of 2018, the TSTN began with six faculty from Psychology and Social Work who engaged academic and service delivery units across campus committed to training and assuring that the University community is committed to providing trauma-informed services.
The Steering Committee meets monthly and currently includes representatives from Social Work, Psychology, Prevention, Outreach and Education (POE), Student Life and Engagement and the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. Participation in TSTN extends well beyond these groups.
In October 2019, the TSTN kicked off its first year as a learning community with an event that invited the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care at the University of Buffalo to come to MSU and share a comprehensive model and toolkit to assess, plan and implement strategies to become trauma-informed.
Since then, monthly learning community events focus on supporting units’ work to become trauma informed. The TSTN has continued to grow and is quickly becoming a valuable resource advancing understanding about trauma informed practices.
The work of TSTN will continue with monthly steering committee and learning community meetings that focus on supporting and learning from the work that is happening at the unit level. TSTN will continue to seek and engage in opportunities to advance this work alongside other organizations at the University.
